Cookies policy

We use cookies for CollabMap to help us to improve your experience of CollabMap and to ensure that it performs as you expect it to.

Cookies are files containing small amounts of information, which are downloaded to your computer or mobile device as you browse on our website. They can be used to improve your experience of using a website, for example, by remembering your preference settings (e.g. preventing you from entering the same information multiple times when filling in an online form) or tracking your use of a website so that it can be improved to meet your needs, or to provide information that is relevant to you.

Websites must get consent to send cookies to your computer or mobile device unless the cookies are strictly necessary to provide services to you.

This information explains what cookies we use on for CollabMap, why we use them and whether they are strictly necessary or another type of cookie e.g. "functionality" or "performance" cookies. We also state in the table whether a cookie is a "persistent" or "session" cookie.

The difference is that:

Cookie: Google Analytics
Name: _utma/_utmb/_utmz

Google Analytics creates these cookies to track anonymous information about how visitors use a website. We use this information to provide clients with information about the performance of their CollabMap. No personal information is captured in this process as the cookies only collect statistical information such as the number of visitors to our website, how they arrived there (i.e. via a Google search or another website), whether it is a first-time or return visit and which web pages were visited. For more information, click here for an overview of privacy at Google.

_utma and _utmz are persistent cookies used for functional reasons.
_utmb is a session cookie used for functional reasons.

Cookie: User identifier
Name: _who

The _who cookie is used to identify the user so that they can see their own comments in the map, agree/disagree with each comment and have access to pre-fill functionality (previously entered details in the comment form) if they make more than one comment in the map. No personal information is captured in this process.

_who is a persistent cookie used for functional reasons.

Cookie: Information pop up
Name: _headerAboutControlOn

The _headerAboutControlOn is used to determine if the user has previously visited the CollabMap. If they have not yet been to the site the introductory ‘pop up’ will show. If they have already visited the CollabMap this will not automatically show.

_headerAboutControlOn is a persistent cookie used for functional reasons

Cookie: Start menu
Name: _startControlOn

The _startControlOn is used to determine if the user has previously visited the CollabMap. If they have not yet been to the site the start menu ‘pop up’ will show after the introductory screen. If they have already visited the CollabMap this will not automatically show.

_startControlOn is a persistent cookie used for functional reasons.
